「鳥のように自由に空を飛びたいー」そんな人類普遍の夢に挑み続けてきたテレビ番組『鳥人間コンテスト』。空を愛する学生や愛好家たちがチームを結成し、毎年、真夏の琵琶湖で、技術力、体力、創造性やチームワークを駆使して、飛行距離を競い合ってきました。
1977年にコンテストが誕生して約50年。機体製作技術や操縦技術は大幅な進化を遂げ、歴代最高記録はなんと69㎞にもおよびます。

そんな鳥人間コンテストの歴史、そしてそれぞれの時代を彩った様々な機体とビッグフライトの軌跡を、パネルや琵琶湖をかたどったオブジェで紹介します。 歴代のレジェンドたちのインタビュー、さらにはかつて鳥人間だった宇宙飛行士の若田光一さんからのコメントも！

To 'fly freely in the sky like a bird' is a universal human dream, one that has been challenged by the TV program, the “Japan International Birdman Rally”. This annual competition sees sky-loving students and enthusiasts gather on Lake Biwa, Japan’s largest lake,each midsummer. Teams combine their technical skills, physical strength, creativity, and teamwork to build and pilot human-powered aircraft, all vying to fly the longest distance. Having started in 1977, the contest is now nearing its 50-year mark. Aircraft manufacturing and piloting techniques have come a long way, with the all-time flight record of an astounding 69 kilometres!

幅12mの大型スクリーン。読売テレビ蔵出しの過去の名シーンや、琵琶湖を進む優雅な映像に、多くの方々が長時間見入っていらっしゃいました。鳥人間たちの熱いドラマに、涙を浮かべて見つめてくださる方も。

鳥人間に出場したレジェンドＯＢ監修、オリジナルの模型飛行機製作ワークショップを開催。
実際に人力飛行機にも使われる材料を使用。完成後、お持ち帰りいただけます。

Make a handmade aircraft and learn about the mechanism of how it flies! Join our exclusive model aircraft workshop, overseen by a legendary alumnus who competed in the famous Birdman Rally! You will get hands-on experience crafting your very own model aircraft using the same actual materials found in human-powered aircraft. Once completed, you can take it home.
