Great Mt. Choukai Mysterious Nature
“We bring you the 4 seasons of the active volcano, Mt. Choukai.”
Mt. Choukai is the tallest mountain in the northern Tohoku region of Japan (Altitude 2,236 m). Situated right up by the coast, Mt. Choukai has conditions to give rise to a very unique natural environment. With total snowfall rivaling the highest in the world, and a bitterly cold environment, very special plants and animals find their homes there. The snowmelt off the mountain flows for over 150 km to the villages in the area, and protects the eggs of the sandfish native to Akita.
